GAFFNEY, S.C. – Senior outside hitter Scott Schweihofer (Marysville, Mich.) drilled a match-high 12 kills as Limestone (15-8, 3-5 CC) wrapped up the 2011 season with a 3-0 victory over Pfeiffer (8-12, 0-6 CC) in a Division II men’s volleyball match on Saturday afternoon. The Saints earned the victory by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20. The 15 wins are the most in the program’s brief history and the season-ending five match win streak is the longest in team history.

After staying within three points of each other  through the first half of Game 1 and eventually deadlocking at 11-11, Limestone used a 4-1 run to pull ahead 15-12. That would be short lived as the Falcons responded with a 5-1 run that gave them a 17-16 advantage. The teams would then alternate the next four points before the Saints used a pair of kills from Schweihofer and sophomore right side hitter Kevin Hart (Menifee, Calif.) to retake the lead at 20-19.

The teams would again trade scores, this time for the next seven points, before Schweihofer drilled back-to-back kills to end it and give Limestone a 25-23 opening set victory.

The second set would see the tight play continue as neither club was separated by more than two points until the Saints, leading 18-17, connected for three straight kills to extend their lead to 21-17. From there each team would score four points down the stretch but it would not be enough as Limestone closed out the 25-21 decision to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Saints would leave much less to chance in Game 3 as they opened with leads of 8-4 and 15-10 before a 4-1 Pfeiffer rally narrowed the gap to 16-14. A 4-0 run, fueled by a pair of Kevin Hart service aces, then pushed the lead to 20-14 and Limestone didn’t look back as they went on to secure the 25-20 victory and take the match by a 3-0 score.

Michael McLaughlin led the Falcons with 10 kills and hit .471 while Evan Fullerton dished out a team-high 26 assists. Mark Hess anchored the defense with 10 digs and was joined by Drew Burdette who finished with eight kills and five digs.

For Limestone, Schweihofer’s 12 kills,  behind a .333 hitting percentage, led all hitters and he added  seven digs and three service aces. He was joined by Kevin Hart with seven kills and a team-high tying eight digs while sophomore setter Andrew Pile (Macungi, Pa.) dished out a match-high 32 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Derek Daley (Reading, Pa.) delivered eight kills and hit .417 and sophomore libero Danny Gruszczyk (Orlando, Fla.) added eight digs.
