April 12, 2011
DUE WEST, S.C. – A dozen different players, led by Alex Cook’s four, each registered a goal as Pfeiffer University trounced Erskine College 22-1 to wrap up the 2011 women’s lacrosse regular season. The Lady Falcons improve to 11-5 overall, 6-1 in league play, entering Saturday’s Conference Carolinas tournament as the #2 seed. The Lady Fleet drop to 1-15, 1-6.
Shannon Bonnel started the scoring two minutes in as Pfeiffer recorded the first 14 of the afternoon. Bonnel and Cook, along with Rachel Hebberd, Kristina Anderson and Liz Melesh would each have multiple goals in the 16 minute stretch led by Cook’s three. After Erskine’s Von McKenzie provided the only score of the day for the hosts, Lorin Lord put home the first of her two with five seconds left before the break for a 15-1 Pfeiffer advantage.
In the second half, Cook started the scoring again just 53 seconds in while Athens and Lord would each strike later in the frame. After Natalie Marvin hit again, Kelley Cunningham would find the back of the net on back-to-back occasions before a free position goal by Amanda Smith closed out the contest.
The Lady Falcon defense held Erskine to just seven shots on the day posting just one in the second half. Pfeiffer took 22 of the 25 draw controls and had the advantage in groundballs 22-20.
