Patterson and Braswell Help Keep Softball Alive at CC Tournament; Post 2-1 Win in 8 over Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A run-scoring single in the top of the eighth by Kirsten Patterson and eight solid innings of work by starter Allison Braswell led #8 Pfeiffer University to a 2-1, eight-inning win over #3 Coker College in a Saturday morning elimination game at the 2011 Conference Carolinas softball tournament. The win keeps the Lady Falcons alive improving to 20-29, facing #5 Lees-McRae in another elimination game at 11:30 a.m.
Pfeiffer held a 1-0 lead in the final frame of regulation after a Mikaela Strickland RBI-single in the fourth. Patterson scored the first run of the day after leading off with a single to left.
Coker forced extra innings with a RBI-single from Bri Jacobs with two outs in the seventh. A half-inning later in the Pfeiffer eighth, Sarah Waylock began the two-out rally with a single to center keeping the inning alive. After Celia Dew reached on an error that allowed Waylock to move to third, Patterson came up with her base knock to left for the decisive tally.
Braswell earned the win going all eight allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts. Sydney Greenwalt for Coker also went the distance, allowing two unearned runs with three strikeouts in the tough-luck loss.
