Pfeiffer Athletics to Host "World Health Day" for Richfield Elementary on Thursday
April 19, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University’s Health and Physical Education K-6 class will be hosting Richfield Elementary school's World Health Day on Thursday, April 21st. The 450 Richfield Elementary students will participate in 18 stations that day. The stations include local health care providers (public health department and a medical doctor), the YMCA (zumba), Albemarle Pilates and Yoga, and several stations ran by Pfeiffer students including environmental health, nature walk, cricket, golf, lacrosse, and cup-stacking to name a few. The key issue this year identified by the WHO is “antimicrobial agents” , so one of the stations is dealing specifically with germs.
The entire Richfield Elementary school will be coming to the Pfeiffer campus for activities from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. The goal of this day is to show the students the worldly aspect of sports and health. Pfeiffer University's sports teams will be assisting with the stations.
There will be 18 stations total:
7. Cup stacking
8. Nature walk
9. Science station
11. European handball
14. Dental Health
There will be cultural credit available for those Pfeiffer students who wish to volunteer. For more information, contact Dawn Lucas at 704-463-3207.
