Results vs. Bluefield (2009-01-04 00:00:00)

Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons (5-4) played a home and home series against the Rams of Bluefield College (10-5) on Saturday and Sunday evenings. After two fast-paced, high intensity games each team walked away with a victory. The Falcons played with a hunger for the win on night two after losing the previous game.
On Saturday, despite bringing a high-octane attack, the Falcons fell to the number 19 team in NAIA Division II 104-119. No lead was safe until the final three minutes as the teams traded treys and transition hoops. Pfeiffer made half of their 76 field goal attempts and shot 77.8% from the charity stripe. The Rams shot 56.5% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
The Falcons were led by sophomore Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) who tallied 23 points, seven rebounds, and also added one steal. Senior Robert McGriff (Lancaster, SC) came off the bench to provide five assists, a pair of steals, eight rebounds and 20 points. Pfeiffer had three other players in double digit scoring.
Ram senior Coryon Ross (St. Petersburg, FL) made six of seven three-point shots and led all scorers with 33 points. Junior Omar Reed (Tazewell, VA) pulled down 12 rebounds for Bluefield, made three steals, dished six assists and was 11-for-12 at the foul line. Senior Curtis Dixon (Charleston, SC) led the Rams with four steals, and added 28 points, going 10-for-14 from the floor.
Pfeiffer opened up Sunday’s game by holding the Rams scoreless for the first two minutes. It was a strong start for what would become a 102-74 win. The Falcons and Rams traded the lead a handful of times in the first ten minutes with neither team leading by more than 3 points. Pfeiffer picked up their offensive efforts and pushed to half time with a 12 point lead over the visitors (42-30).
The Falcons secured the win by scoring an outstanding 60 points in the second half. The Rams were only able to whittle Pfeiffer’s lead to 10 a minute into the half, but could not stop the Falcon offense.
Pfeiffer shot 56.7% from the field and 73.3% from the free throw line, compared to Bluefield’s 35.5% and 69.6%, respectively. Bluefield went only 4-for-26 at the arc, while Pfeiffer went 10-for-26.
Sophomore Duke Johnson (Ville Platte, LA) and junior James Crowder (High Point, NC) led Pfeiffer in scoring with 18 points each. Johnson went 6-for-10 from the floor, had five rebounds, and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Crowder shot 7-for-10 from the field, tallied nine rebounds, and had two assists. Chris Woods and Robert McGriff each added 12 points to Pfeiffer’s total.
Junior Omar Reed was the dominating force for the Rams with a double-double. He notched 15 points, going 7-for-12 from the floor, and had 11 rebounds. Reed also led his team with three steals.
