September 3, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Three first half goals in a seven minute span pushed UNC-Pembroke to a 4-0 shutout over Pfeiffer University in non-conference womenís soccer action on Saturday afternoon. Rebecca Womack (Thomasville, NC) put home two of the four strikes as the Braves move to 2-0 on the young season while the Lady Falcons dip to 0-2.
Playing for the first time since UNCP knocked Pfeiffer out of the NCAA tournament last season, Amalia Arvidsson (Boras, SWEDEN) started the early run of tallies with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute on a shot directed to the back right post. At the 10 minute mark of the first, Fanny Forsman (Boras, SWEDEN) converted a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box on the right side of the cage.
Womack would boot in the first of her two in the 14th minute as a cross from Arvidsson deflected off of a Lady Falcon defender over to Womack for a 3-0 UNCP lead. In the second half, Womack tossed in the gameís final goal streaking down the left sideline from near midfield before crossing over and converting her shot.
Both teams fired 16 shots on the afternoon with the Braves holding an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Joi Chrishon (Fayetteville, NC) had the one of the best opportunities to get on the board late in the second, but pushed her attempt wide right. Dating back to last seasonís conference and NCAA tournament, the Lady Falcons havenít found the back of the net in 278:14 minutes of action.
Pfeiffer returns to N.E. Lefko Field on Tuesday afternoon to host Lenoir-Rhyne in another non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.†
