National Upset Bid Falls Just Short as #5 Clayton State Survives for 1-0 Win over Men's Soccer

MORROW, G.A. – A late second half goal in the 74th minute enabled #5 Clayton State to squeak out a 1-0 victory over Pfeiffer University in the final day of the Laker Classic on Saturday night. The Lakers improve to 2-0 with the win while the Falcons fall to 0-2.
On the back side of the final 45 minutes, Alejandro Duque would deliver a pass inside the box that would find the head of Ryan Pugh who converted the attempt for the match’s lone goal. Clayton State took a whopping 24 shots on the night with 12 in each half with only seven shots being on goal.
Pfeiffer managed just one shot in the contest coming in the sixth minute of action as Taylor Scalera had his shot turned away by goalkeeper Brian Garcia. Zach Liles in net for the Falcons made a half-dozen saves in the defeat.
