Results vs. Mt. Olive College (2009-03-22 00:00:00)

Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons nabbed two Conference Carolinas softball wins on Sunday against the Trojans of Mount Olive College. The Falcons won game one 3-1 and then proceeded to shut out the Trojans in game two 5-0. Pfeiffer improves to 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play and 18-10 overall, while Mount Olive falls to 6-4 in the conference and 15-14-1 overall.
Game One – Pfeiffer 3, Mount Olive 1
The Falcons jumped on the board first in game one marking two runs in the third inning. Kylee Nichols (McMinville, OR) started off the inning and was hit by a pitch. Then, Stephanie Bethea (Greensboro, NC) bunted to get on base and advance Nichols. The runners then moved another base off a sacrifice by Martina Bullard (Godwin, NC). Two batters later, Nichols and Bethea each scored an unearned run off an error by the Mount Olive left fielder.
Pfeiffer tallied another run in the following inning when Christie Thomas (Durham, NC) singled to get on base and advanced to second on a Nichols single. She scored when Bethea hit a double down the right field line.
Mount Olive refused to be shut out and finally got on the board in the seventh inning. Kat Cahoon (Columbia, NC) doubled to left field and then advanced to third on a ground out. She scored when Jenny Jackson (Fremont, NC) singled through the left side. Despite the late score, Mount Olive was unable to produce any more runs to end the game with a win or force extra innings.
Ranzy York (Milton-Freewater, OR) earned the win and pitched 6.1 innings giving up eight hits and one run. She marked five strike outs. Thomas pitched .2 innings of relief for the save giving up one hit.
Pfeiffer was led at the plate by Bethea who was 3-3 with one run and one RBI. Thomas was 1-2 with one run, while Nichols was 1-3 with one run.
Anna Turvin (Winter Haven, FL) took the loss for the Trojans pitching 3.2 innings. She gave up six hits and three runs with one being earned. She struck out one batter.
The Trojans were led by Cahoon who was 2-3 with one run.
Game Two – Pfeiffer 5, Mount Olive 0
In game two, the Falcons notched four earned runs in the first inning to fuel Pfeiffer’s momentum coming off the win in game one. With two outs Bullard was walked and then stole second. Brittany Waldon (Port Orchard, WA) was also walked and Shelby Fleming (Roseville, CA) doubled to right center to score Bullard. York singled to right center advancing Fleming to third and scoring Waldon. Sarah Moore (Reidsville, NC) wrapped up first inning scoring with a double to left field that scored York and Fleming.
Pfeiffer pounded out one more run in the fourth when Bethea singled up the middle scoring Heather Nobles (Ainger, NC).
Ranzy York led Pfeiffer by going 2-3 with one run and one RBI. Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) pitched seven innings giving up four hits, but marking zero runs against. She struck out five batters.
Kristin Ware (Lancaster, CA) took the loss for Mount Olive after pitching four innings giving up five hits and five runs.
