Women's Soccer Snake Bitten 4-1 by Moccasins in Sunday Matinee
October 9, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A pair of goals in each half was plenty for Florida Southern during a 4-1 victory over Pfeiffer University in non-conference women’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon. Morgan Sammons (Lithia, FL) put home two of the four for the Mocs as they improve to 7-3-1 overall. The loss snaps a brief two-game win streak for the Lady Falcons as they fall to 5-7.
Sammons started the day with her second of the year in the 32 minute as Alex Hoover (West Palm Beach, FL) and Hanna Jansson (Vasteras, SWEDEN) connected with Sammons for a 1-0 visitors lead. Just under three minutes later, Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) netted her team-leading sixth of the year to knot the contest at one with a rocket from outside the 18-yard box put into the top left corner of the cage. To end the first half of scoring, Jansson deposited her first of the season from 25 yards out to put the Mocs up 2-1 at the break.
Out of the intermission, Sammons converted on her second of the day, third of the year, just 3:44 in as Kara Moore (Flemming Island, FL) delivered a pass over to Sammonds who sent her shot inside the left post for a two-goal lead. Insurance, in the form of Moore’s fourth of the year, came in the 67th minute.
Florida Southern held a 22-10 shots advantage overall, 13-4 on cage. Martina Tangen Billing (Uppsala, SWEDEN) made one save in her first half of action while Erin Moseley (Jacksonville, FL) made two in the second. Jamie Alcala (Fredericksburg, VA) turned away nine shots on the afternoon for Pfeiffer.
The Lady Falcons will re-enter Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday hosting St. Andrews for a 2:00 p.m. matchup. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
