October 15, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – League-leading Lees-McRae College picked up a 3-0 (25-15, 29-27, 25-12) sweep over host Pfeiffer University to remain unbeaten in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball play on Saturday afternoon in the Merner Gym. The Bobcats advance to 18-6 overall, 13-0 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 7-10, 4-6.
Pfeiffer and Lees-McRae were squared a nine apiece early in the opening set until a Lady Falcon hitting error and kill by Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, NC) put the Bobcats up for good two rallies later. Pfeiffer’s Kelsey Blauser (Round Rock, TX) brought the hosts back to within two at 13-11, but Lees-McRae would close out the first set with a 12-4 spurt thanks to a pair of aces and four kills thrown down by four different Lady Bobcat players.
In the middle stanza, Pfeiffer rallied from 15-11 to force extra points in a 29-27 set two loss to Lees-McRae. Down one late, Kim Amerell (Lynchburg, VA) put down one of her three kills on the day to tie the set at 23-23 as the Lady Falcons would stave off four set points until the end. Clendenin added two more kills in the extra rallies until a final put down by Jessica Singewald (Port St. Lucie, FL) sent the Bobcats to a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was all Lees-McRae in the end to finish off the sweep as Lauren Fox (Garland, TX) squared the game at eight after Pfeiffer found themselves up by as much as four early on. Stretches of six, three and three quickly sent the Bobcats over the top as aces by Taylor Pritchett (Apex, NC), Clendenin, Sariah Suryadevara (Cincinnati, OH) and Megan Mitchell (Minden, NV) eventually concluded the match.
Megan Epperson (St. John, IN) along with Clendenin each led Lees-McRae with nine kills on the afternoon. Mitchell dished out a match-high 31 assists while Suryadevara popped up 11 digs. Pfeiffer was led by four kills apiece from Kelly Lancellot (Naples, FL) and Milana Mervosh (Roebuck, SC).
The Lady Falcons will now hit the road for their longest-stretch of the season beginning with Mount Olive and Barton this coming Tuesday and Wednesday night’s. Each match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
