Men and Women's Cross Country Wrap Up 2011 Season at NCAA II Regional Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -  The Pfeiffer men’s and women’s cross country team finished up their season at the Southeast Regional Championships at McAlpine Creek Park on Saturday morning. Competing against Conference rivals, members of the South Atlantic and Peach Belt Conference’s, the women finished 17th and the men finishing 22nd of the 30 schools represented.  Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Griewisch finished the women’s 6k run in 20:38 to repeat as regional champion. UNC-Pemproke’s Pardon Ndhlovu won the individual men’s title by running the 10k race in 30:55. Queens won both the men and women’s team titles with a total of 39 and 63 points. Queens won their fifth consecutive regional team title on the men’s side.

The women’s team wrapped up their season in style, with some of the fastest 6k times in recent history. Junior Vlada Mouravieva finished first for the Lady Falcons with a time of 23:47, the fastest 6k time for Pfeiffer in more than eight years. Senior Kaitlyn Mullis ran a personal record 24:12 in her last collegiate race, with freshman Megan Hunsucker finishing close behind in 24:18. Freshman Justine Serje came in next, running a 24:41. Sophomore Nina Ubabuike finished in the top five for Pfeiffer, running 28:48. After battling injury late in the season, junior Rachel Biggerstaff (29:04) came in sixth for the team, with fellow junior April Hinson (31:04) finishing next. As a team, the women averaged a 25:09, over a minute faster than the previous team record.

Junior Will Oliver led the Falcons with a time of 34:08, a personal record and fastest Pfeiffer NCAA Regional performance since before 2004. Sophomore Josh Roberts finished in 35:39, with sophomore Cody Bivens running 36:01. Fellow sophomore Trey Sharpe ran a 37:06, and freshman Jeff McClure wrapped up the scoring for the team with a 37:13. Junior Zack Allen (38:48) and sophomore Joseph Sutlive (38:58) concluded the team’s action. As a team, the men averaged a 36:01, the second fastest team average in the last eight years.
