BLOG #3: Unforgettable!

The good news is we’re still 0-0.Despite what some may call a shellacking or beat down, our team was able to come away with some positives and a great experience in our loss to Duke on Thursday night.Years from now, it is unlikely that anyone will remember the score, therefore no need to repost it, right?
The remembrances will be of the atmosphere in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Playing on a historic and legendary floor. Hearing your name through the same speakers as Christian Laettner, Lindsey Harding and Grant Hill once did. Competing against players which someday may be stars in the WNBA. Realizing a dream.
From the moment Coach Thomas and I received our 32-page Women’s Basketball Visiting Team Guide from Duke’s Game Operations Manager, we knew this game was going to be unlike any game at Pfeiffer. Even something as simple as having the charter bus drop off our team involved several Duke staff members. Another group directed us to our locker room (where we coaches had our own private area), and Coach Thomas was greeted by her own personal escort.
As amazing experience this was for our players, it was for the coaches too. We had to be sure to put up (and of course, make) a few shots as well as tour the concourse and walk through a bit of Blue Devil basketball history. And while our players were competing against athletes bigger, stronger and faster, we were going head-to-head with coaching from one of the best in the women’s game.
We all very much appreciated the support from Pfeiffer. Parents, families, friends, staff, faculty and students gave us a great turnout at the game. It was nice to show Duke that we have our own Pfeiffer following.
Losses always sting at least a bit. But knowing the team we were competing against, the facility in which we were playing, and the memories our team will forever have from that night make it easier to take.
That, and when the guarantee check was delivered to the locker room after the game.
