Smith's 26 Not Enough as Men's Basketball Falls by 10 at Barry
November 25, 2011
MIAMI SHORES, F.L. - Despite a game-high 26 points from Danny Smith, Pfeiffer University dropped the first leg of its Thanksgiving Florida road trip 67-57 at Barry on Friday afternoon. The Bucs even to 3-3 on the year while the Falcons dip to 3-2. Both teams suffered a post-Thursday lull barely shooting 30% from the field.
Pfeiffer carried an early 12-11 lead in the first half as a pair of Curt Myers free throws put the visitors up one. A 7-0 spurt by Barry put the hosts up six as the clock ticked under three minutes to play before a triple by Myers cut the lead down to two at the half.
Back-to-back triples less than four minutes into the second half put the Bucs up a game-high 10 points until a triple by Smith sparked a comeback, eventually leading to a 41-40 Pfeiffer lead with 13:18 remaining after a pair of Reggie Hollinger free throws.
The Falcons saw their last lead come with 5:12 left after a tip in by Josh Humphrey. Barry delivered the final blow with a 10-0 run in the next three and a half minutes to seal the win.
Smith was the only Falcon to register double-digits in the points column while Humphrey yanked down 13 rebounds. Barry put three in double figures led by Evan White's 14.
Pfeiffer gets back to action on Saturday afternoon traveling up I-95 to Lynn in Boca Raton for a 2:00 p.m. with the Fighting Knights.
