Women's Basketball Suffers Second Half Lapse in 73-60 Road Loss at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mount Olive College shot 45% from the field en route to a 73-60 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action on Wednesday night. The Trojans move to 16-5 overall, 10-2 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 11-10, 6-6.
After a Shelley Reese three and layup by Vontenea Williams, Pfeiffer found themselves up six, 16-10, just seven minutes in. Mount Olive's Andrea Jones turned around and helped give the Trojans a lead going up as much as six of their own with 9:01 before the break. A following pair of Williams free throws at the 6:38 mark would start a 9-0 run that would send the visitors up seven, 33-26, with just under five to play. An ensuing 8-0 run by Mount Olive would erase the lead as the Trojans carried a one-point, 36-35, lead into the break.
Out of the intermission, the Trojans bolted out on a 14-5 run to start the second going up 10, 50-40, in the first 6:48 of the second. Another lapse in the second half came past the midway point as Mount Olive took their largest lead of the night at 21 with 6:58 to play holding on by 13 at the final buzzer.
Tamara Nesmith led the way with 20 points and 15 rebounds for Mount Olive converting 10 of her 16 shots from the field. Jones followed with 19 as the Trojans outscored Pfeiffer 34-12 in the paint. Cox led the Lady Falcons once again with 18 while Reese finished with 11.
