Men's Basketball Falls 74-67 at Barton; Must Win Friday's Season-Finale vs. Coker to Clinch Final Playoff Spot

WILSON, N.C. - Despite a game-high 26 points from Danny Smith and 22 from Reggie Hollinger, Pfeiffer University fell 74-67 to host Barton College in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action on Tuesday night. The win pushes the Bulldogs to 16-9 overall, 8-7 in league play securing the east division's third playoff spot. The loss sends the Falcons to 12-13, 6-9 and sets up a crucial season finale on Friday. The Falcons must beat Coker at home to grab the east's final playoff spot.
Barton immediately grabbed all momentum on Tuesday night bolting out to a 14-0 lead in the game's first 5:32. Hollinger would lay in the visitors first points on the game just 10 seconds later. Hollinger's basket started an 8-0 run for the Falcons in which the Barton lead drop down under 10 for the remainder of the half.
Trailing by the same margins in the second half, Pfeiffer finally made things interesting cutting the lead down to one, 68-67 on a Hollinger bucket with 3:25 to play. The remaining Bulldog points would come from the free throw line over the next 180 seconds until a monster dunk by Joseph Velez sealed the win for Barton.
Pfeiffer shot 53% in the road loss holding Barton to 44%. Barton's advantage came in the rebounding department holding a 35-26 edge cashing in with 18 second chance points.
