February 22, 2012
WINGATE, N.C. - Powered by a pair of homers by Kevin Price and a 5-for-5 day from Justin Harris, Pfeiffer University was able to collect a 13-8 victory at Wingate University on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons pounded out a season-high 18 hits in the win moving to 6-6 on the year while the Bulldogs drop to 8-6.
Pfeiffer immediately got off to a great start as Jacob Yates sent the seventh pitch of the game over the wall in right for a 1-0 lead. Harris followed two hitters later with his own solo-shot to put the Falcons up two.
In a five-run third, all of the action began with two outs as Matt Wade kept the inning alive with a single back up the middle. After Yates walked, Price belted his first of two on the day to put the visitors up 5-0. Harris and Preston Lyon would collect the other RBI in the frame as Pfeiffer carried a 7-0 into the third. Yates would add a run-scoring infield single just a frame later as the Falcons made it 8-0 before the Bulldogs would finally get on the board.
Wingate would get on the board in the third with a run and use a pair of homers in the fourth to make it 8-3 before Wade got one of those run back with his solo blast in the top of the fifth. Ahead 9-4 entering the seventh, Pfeiffer blew it open with four more tallies capped off by Price's second three-run bomb to right.
In addition to the afternoon's put together by Price, Harris and Yates, Lyon would end his day 4-for-5 with two runs driven in.
Pfeiffer will now enter Conference Carolinas play in 2012 beginning Friday opening up a three-game series with Erskine at Joe Ferebee Field. Friday's series-opener is set for 2:00 p.m. with a Saturday doubleheader following at noon.
