Ring Tosses Complete Game Six-Hitter as Baseball Blanks Erskine 7-0 to Open Up Conference Play

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Tyler Ring (Concord, NC) tossed a complete game six-hitter while Kevin Price (Asheville, NC) went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate as the Falcons scored a 7-0 shutout over Erskine College in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Friday afternoon. The win pushes Pfeiffer to 7-6 overall, 1-0 in league play while the Fleet fall to 5-5, 0-1.
The Falcons got on the board early in the third as Matt Wade (Chapel Hill, NC) and Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC) each delivered run-scoring singles during a gusty afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. An inning later, Wade again picked up a RBI-single that brought home Cole McGraw (Claremont, NC) while Price later registered an RBI infield-single with a Fleet throwing error on the same play. Adding insurance in the sixth and eighth, Price would drive home Wade before Justin Harris (Albany, NY) drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth.
The Falcons out-hit Erskine 17-6 on the day behind Ring’s masterpiece. Ring scattered just six hits with a walk and pair of strikeouts in the win. Ring faced four more hitters than the nine inning minimum. At the plate, Wade would finish his day 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored while McGraw concluded 3-for-4. Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC) and Cody Spence (Belton, SC) each collected two of Erskine’s six hits on the day.
Both teams are back at on Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
