Baseball Splits Saturday Twinbill with Erskine; Win League-Opening Series 2-1

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University and Erskine College split a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader on Saturday with the Falcons taking the seven-inning opener 6-4 while the Fleet held on for a 2-1 win in the nightcap. Pfeiffer, who takes two-of-three in the weekend series improves to 8-7 overall, 2-1 in league play while Erskine advances to 6-6, 1-2.
In game one, a Kevin Price walk kept the inning alive that allowed Jon Gray to blast a two-run shot to left for a 2-1 lead. Aarin Sharpe later followed with a bases-loaded walk while a two-run single by Dalton Lindley and Fleet fielding error led to the final runs in the six-run third.
Erskine would plate two in the fourth and one in the sixth cutting it down to a 6-4 game, but Pfeiffer's Craig Bolton would nail down the save cruising in a 1-2-3 seventh.
Bryan Tuttle earned the win in his five innings of work with six strikeouts. Tuttle allowed three runs, two earned, scattering six hits. Gray finished game one 3-for-3 with a walk and his blast to left.
In game two, the first of Erskine's two runs came in the third on a fielder's choice and throwing error by the Falcons. The Fleet's eventual game-winner came in the form of a Drew Willingham RBI-double in the fifth. Pfeiffer's run came via Gray again with a fifth-inning fielder's choice. The leadoff man for the Falcons in Dalton Lindley reached to begin the ninth, but after a sac-bunt by Matt Wade, Erskine reliever Kit Carter got a strikeout and groundball to end the game.
