Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Led by Caleb Brophyís (Mission Viejo, CA) match-high 15 kills and hitting percentage of .375, Pfeiffer University swept away Sacred Heart 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-21) in non-conference menís volleyball action on Thursday afternoon. The win snaps a brief three-game skid for the Falcons moving to 12-4 on the year while the Pioneers drop their ninth-straight match falling to 4-16.

Both teams went back-and-forth early on in the opening set as Pfeiffer took an 11-9 lead on an Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) kill, not seeing the lead again until 26-25 on a ball handling error by the Pioneers. Quentin Moore (Richmond, VA) would put down the setís final kill giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead in the match.

In the middle set, Micah Bortner (Dallastown, PA) helped the hosts bolt out to a 11-9 lead again on one of his two kills before a kill from SHUís Will Leclerc (Fairfield, CT) and two-straight Falcon errors led to a one-point, 15-14 lead for the Pioneers. Lance Johnson (Harrisburg, PA) would immediately tie for the Falcons on a putdown in front of back-to-back Brophy kills forced a Sacred Heart timeout at 21-19. Johnson, Moore and Brophy would each post kills in the setís final points while Konstantin Wiese (Berlin, GERMANY) picked up the last kill in a 25-23 win.

Pfeiffer trailed 12-10 early in the final set while a pair of Pioneer errors and two-more kills from Brophy gave the Black and Gold a 14-12 lead. Jason Kinney (Salem, NM) gave the Pioneers a brief lead at 17-16 until a Brophy kill, ace and attack error by Sacred Heart put the Falcons back up 20-17. Johnson and Moore would administer the Falcons final points while Moore ended it and secured the sweep for the hosts.

Moore would finish with 10 kills behind Brophyís 15. Weise and Johnson would each go 5-for-6 hitting .833 in the win as Pfeiffer hit .265 as a team. David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) assisted 34 times while leading with a team-high 10 digs. Nick Hunt (Uniondale, NY) paced the Pioneers with 10 kills.
