March 12, 2012
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Pfeiffer University stands alone in third place out of 15 teams after day one of the 2012 Dana Rader Intercollegiate hosted at the Ballantyne Resort. The Lady Falcons, led by Chelsea Demers opening round 75, shot 311 to trail Midwestern State by 11 and second place Lander by six heading into Tuesday's final round.
This year's field has six Conference Carolinas teams involved with the Lady Falcons ahead of their nearest league competitor Mount Olive by 11 strokes. Demers rebounded very nicely after a front nine 40 to card a one-under 35 on the back. Danielle Haizlip put together a consistent round of 77 shooting 39/38 while Lauren Lyle concluded at 79 fairing three shots better on the back with a 38. Steph Peareth rounded out team scoring with an 80 even while Amanda Wemple wasn't too far behind with an 87.
Taylor Klutts of Midwestern State and Lucia Careaga of Wingate hold the individual overnight lead after an even par round of 72. The highlight of the day came from Erskine's Rachel Moore who needed just one swing on the par three 13th hole to record a hole-in-one.
Tuesday's final round is set to begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
