Home Struggles Continue as Softball Gets Swept by Queens 2-0, 4-3

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University softball team dropped its third-consecutive Conference Carolinas doubleheader to Queens on Wednesday by the scores of 2-0 and 4-3 in eight innings. The east division leading Royals improve to 17-19 overall, 7-2 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 14-25, 4-10.
In the opener, a dropped fly ball led to Queens' first run in the top of the first while insurance in the form of a Kaitlyn Cheek RBI-double in the sixth. Royals starter Chantel Dodge was almost unhittable tossing a one-hitter with five three-up, three-down innings. Pfeiffer's lone hit was a leadoff single by Emily Workman in the fourth. Dodge finished with a complete game one-hitter adding three strikeouts in the win.
In game two, the Lady Falcons struck first in the opening frame with a run-scoring single by Mikaela Strickland. Later in the fifth, Hannah Jackson would put Pfeiffer up 2-0 while her fielder's choice to short scoring Sadie Saine.
Queens would comeback to tie it on a two-run Megan Lathbury double in the sixth before the Lady Falcons regained a 3-2 advantage on a Royals infield error in their half of the sixth. Queens would force extra innings scoring the game-tying run on a pair of Pfeiffer errors.
The Royals would push across the eventual game-winning run in the eighth on a Cheek single. Pfeiffer had the tying run at third with one out in their eighth by Dodge, entering in relief during the sixth, got a pop out and fly out to end the contest.
Pfeiffer returns to Conference Carolinas action on Friday traveling up to Mount Olive for a 3:00 p.m. double dip with the Trojans.
