Baseball Uses a Big Inning in Game One; Timely Hitting in Game Two to Sweep a League Pair from Barton

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University baseball picked up their first Saturday sweep of the season taking 8-2 and 2-1 victories over Barton College in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons end the day 19-15 overall, 10-7 in league play while the Bulldogs fall to 11-21, 3-12.
After a Barton run in the top of the second of game one, Pfeiffer came right back with the equalizer on a Matt Wade (Chapel Hill, NC) RBI-single in the their second. An inning later, Pfeiffer would explode for four runs with a sacrifice fly from Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC), two-run double by Cole McGraw (Claremont, NC) and RBI-double from Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) to take a 5-1 lead.
The Falcons would add a bit of insurance with a Justin Harris (Albany, NY) RBI-single and sacrifice fly in the fourth and sixth frames, before the Bulldogs plated their final run in the eighth. Wade would drive home Pfeiffer's final run of game one with a single in the seventh.
Tyler Ring (Concord, NC) got the win tossing seven strong frames, allowing one run on six hits while fanning four. Jacob Yates (Blairs, VA) and Kevin Price (Asheville, NC) would each collect three hits in the opener while six of the starting nine registered at-least two hits.
In the seven-inning nightcap, Pfeiffer trailed 1-0 after a Bulldog run in the fourth. The comeback began with a two RBI-double by Lyon in the fifth while grabbing the eventual game-winner with Price's RBI-double in the sixth. A leadoff walk by McGraw and inning-beginning single by Aarin Sharpe (Winterville, NC) proved to be the difference for the Falcons.
Bryan Tuttle (Lenoir, NC) would snag the second victory on the mound going the distance allowing just a run on five hits with four strikeouts. Yates and Price would each add another hit in game two to finish their afternoons.
Pfeiffer will look for their first three-game sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon taking on Barton in the final contest of the three-game set. First pitch will be thrown at 1:00 p.m. with live stats being available at http://www.gofalconsports.com.
