Baseball Picks Up Series-Opening Win at St. Andrews as Bats Awaken Late in 11-4 Victory

LAURINBURG, N.C. - Pounding out 16 hits, the Pfeiffer University baseball team picked up a big win at St. Andrews to start their three-game weekend series on Friday afternoon. The Falcons, in the race for one of the final playoff spots, improve to 23-22 overall, 14-11 in league play, while the Knights fall to 11-35, 4-21.
Pfeiffer trailed 3-0 going into the sixth until the bats came alive starting with a Justin Harris RBI-double that scored Jacob Yates. Later in the frame, Preston Lyon delivered a run-scoring double in front of Dalton Lindley's game-tying single up the middle.
In the seventh, the visitors added three more runs on a failed pickoff attempt by the Knights while a two-run single to center became the big run-producer from Jon Gray.
Insurance in the form of a Justin Harris RBI in the eighth, a part of another two runs, while RBI from Kevin Price, Harris and a wild pitch added up to the final three runs.
Tyler Summers would pick up the win in relief for the Falcons allowing just a run on one hit in his two innings of work.
Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. marking the final two contests for the Falcons inside league play.
