Baseball Punches Ticket to Conference Tournament with Series Sweep at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. - Pfeiffer University punched their ticket to the 2012 Conference Carolinas baseball tournament on Saturday afternoon sweeping St. Andrews 5-2 and 4-1 to earn a berth. The Falcons end the regular season 25-23 overall, 16-11 in league play while the Knights end at 11-37, 4-23.

In game one, Aarin Sharpe got things started with an RBI-single up the middle to put Pfeiffer up early 1-0. The big frame in game one came during the third as Preston Lyon followed Justin Harris' run-scoring single to left with a two-run triple to left-center. Harris knocked in the fifth and final run with a sacrifice fly in seventh.

Jeff Barkley picked up the win tossing seven solid frames allowing just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. Dylan Norris and Eric Shuford wrapped up with perfect eighth and ninths as Shuford picked up a save.

Lyon began scoring in game two with a solo blast in the second as both teams fought through a 1-1 game after six frames. In the seventh, Pfeiffer plated three runs beginning with Cole McGraw scoring on a passed ball just in front of Harris' RBI-double. Johnny Brown, Jr. recorded the final RBI with his two-out single to left.

Bryan Tuttle picked up a win tossing all seven frames allowing just the one run on six hits while fanning seven.
