MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Athletic director Mary Ann Sunbury has announced the Greg Walker will become the new head coach of men’s and women’s volleyball at Pfeiffer University. Walker brings an extensive USA Volleyball background to Pfeiffer along with coaching experience at Juniata, Mercer and Penn State.

“We are very excited to have Greg join our staff coaching both men and women’s volleyball,” stated Sunbury. “His enthusiasm and experience is a great plus for both of our volleyball programs. He has learned from some of the best coaches in the business and is hungry to be a head coach. We’re looking forward to seeing him in action.”

Walker enters Pfeiffer after holding several coaching positions and certifications with USA Volleyball. Currently, Walker is on the National Sitting Team within USA Volleyball and serves as a national tryout evaluator. His experience also includes attending clinics at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Collegiate coaching experience most recently comes from Juniata College as an assistant helping guide the program to a 21-11 overall record a year ago with their second-straight 8-0 perfect mark in conference play. Juniata was again among the nation’s best finding themselves no lower than fourth in the AVCA national rankings. In 2011, the Eagles wrapped up 18-12, receiving a national ranking of #1 for NCAA III during the year before finishing fifth in the AVCA’s postseason poll.

Prior to a year at Mercer University competing in division one’s Atlantic Sun Conference, Walker held a head coaching position with the Penn State women’s club team capturing the first league championship in school history. His first coaching position at Penn State-Altoona saw Walker guide the NCAA III program to a 21-9 overall record with a 7-2 mark in conference play.

"I am extremely happy to have been asked to join the coaching staff here as Head Coach of both men's and women's volleyball programs here at Pfeiffer University,” remarked Walker. “It has been the most welcoming experience and I want to thank the administration for sharing in my future vision for both men's and women's programs.  I have been more than blessed to have had amazing mentors over the years that have prepared me to be very successful in this position and I look forward to continuing the excellence that has already been established and to continue building upon that foundation."

A native of Pennsylvania, Walker graduated from The United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama with a Bachelor of Sports Science in Sports Coaching. Walker is also pursuing his Master’s degree at USSA in Sports Science with an emphasis on NCAA Compliance.

Walker will make his head coaching debut with the Lady Falcons on August 31st and September 1st at the Francis Marion Invitational in South Carolina. Friday’s opening day matches will be against Mars Hill and host Francis Marion at 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
