Women's Soccer Battles to Double Overtime Draw with King on Senior Day

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Host Pfeiffer University and visiting King College battled to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon after 110 minutes of Conference Carolinas soccer action at N.E. Lefko Field. The Lady Falcons, who doubled up the Tornado 24-12 in shots, slide to 5-6-2 overall, 4-2-2 in league play, while King moves to 3-6-2, 2-5-2.
In the 14th minute, King had the first opportunity of the day as Kendyl Baird (Boone, NC) clanked a shot off the crossbar before the Tornado would need three saves from keeper Morgan Lawson (Goodview, VA) and a team save on the goal mouth over a three minute span starting in the 19th minute of play. Aaliyah Jackson (Statesville, NC) fired three of those early shots before hitting the crossbar herself in the final minute of the half.
In the second half’s 82nd minute, Pfeiffer’s Katlyn Stevens (Milton, GA) fired a shot off the crossbar as both Lawson and Britt Polly (Boca Raton, FL) continued to make saves in net.
Overtime #1 saw Pfeiffer hold a 2-1 advantage in shots with each Polly and Lawson making a save. King turned around and held the same tilt in the second overtime period with Polly making another save in the 104th minute.
In addition to the 24-12 shots mark held by Pfeiffer, the Lady Falcons also led with 11-6 shots on goal. Lawson would make 10 saves in net for King while Polly deflected six for Pfeiffer.
Before the game, Brittany Papaj (Sandy Hook, CT), Jill Maykut (Oviedo, FL) and Lexie Makris (Fredericksburg, VA) were all honored for senior day. Papaj and Maykut would each register a shot on goal and aid in the shutout from the defensive line.
The Lady Falcons return to action on Wednesday traveling to Barton for another Conference Carolinas matchup beginning at 5:00 p.m.
