Balanced Offensive Attack and 13 Aces Lead to 3-0 Sweep over Coker for Women's Volleyball on Senior Day

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University used a balanced offensive attack and served up13 aces on the day, six by sophomore Kelly Lancellot (Naples, FL), during a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-14) sweep of visiting Coker College in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons improve to 5-14 overall, 4-7 in league play while sending the Cobras to 5-17, 5-7.

Lancellot’s aces came at a great time during a 20-20 tight first set. A kill and three aces over the next four plays allowed the Lady Falcons to grab an eventual 25-23 set win after final kills by Meghan Davis (Fulton, MO) and Jessica Homrich (Grand Rapids, MI).

Lancellot would add three more aces in the second set to help Pfeiffer take a 2-0 match lead. Coker also helped out by committing nine errors, four of those blocks by Lancellot, Homrich, Anna Vizvary (North Augusta, SC) and Jordan O’Bryant (Reidsville, NC). Three-straight kills would close out the set as Milana Mervosh (Roebuck, SC) sandwiched a kill in between Homrich and O’Bryant to end the middle set.

Set three belonged to Pfeiffer from start to finish as another Davis ace and back-to-back kills by O’Bryant, honored before the game for senior day, staked the hosts out to a fast 15-4 lead. Coker would get as close as eight at 18-10, but final kills from Lancellot and Brianna Jones (Atlanta, GA) finished off the Saturday sweep.

Mervosh, Vizvary and Homrich each contributed seven kills on the day for the Lady Falcons while Lancellot and O’Bryant followed right behind with six. Pfeiffer would hit an even .400 in the middle set to finish at .275 for the afternoon. Coker was led by Taylor Willis (Zephyrhills, FL), April Griggs (Bishopville, SC), Hannah Vadakin (Centennial, CO) and Catie Truzzolino (Pompano Beach, FL) who each recorded seven kills in the loss.

Pfeiffer will now take the week off for Fall Break before heading to the Mount Olive Classic next weekend for contests against Armstrong Atlantic and the host Trojans.
