Men's Basketball Limits Charlotte to 20% Three-Point Shooting in 95-51 Exhibition Loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Tayron Gibson (Dumfries, VA) would score the first six points, both by three’s, before host Charlotte tallied the next 10 moving to a 95-51 exhibition win in men’s basketball action Thursday night inside Halton Arena. The Falcons would limit the 49ers to just 4-of-20 (20%) shooting from behind the arc.
After both teams, missed their opening attempts, Gibson would nail down the first points of the night hitting a three 1:43 into the contest. Next time down the floor, Gibson hit another triple putting Pfeiffer up 6-0 just 23 seconds later. Silvere Aluko (Manchester, NH) would stop a 10-0 Charlotte run minutes later as the Falcons trailed 12-8.
Charlotte ended the first 20 minutes on a 14-5 run despite the Falcons holding the Niners to just 2-of-11 (18.2%) from behind the arc. Charlotte would hold a slim advantage in rebounds overall 24-20 besting the Falcons by two in both rebounding categories.
To open the second half, Charlotte rolled out to an 8-0 lead until Montez Singleton (Charlotte, NC) drained a free throw to stop the Niners run. Midway through the second half, Pfeiffer would connect on three-straight attempts from the floor as a Singleton layup, Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, NC) lay in and three from Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) to get the lead down to 63-36.
Gibson would lead the Falcons with 13 points on the night in 14 minutes of action while Matthews ended with 10 points. Darion Clark led the Niners with a game-high 19. All 17 Falcons would see playing time in Thursday exhibition contest.
Pfeiffer will open up the 2012-2013 regular season next Saturday hosting the annual Highway 52 Shootout in the Merner Gym. The Falcons will open up against the University of Virginia-Lynchburg at 8:00 p.m.
