Women's Volleyball Playoff Hopes Take a Hit in 3-2 Road Loss at Barton

WILSON, N.C. - Host Barton College opened the fifth and deciding set on a 7-1 run en route to a 15-12 and 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12) match victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action on Friday night. The win pushes the Bulldogs to 9-16 overall, 6-9 in league play while the Lady Falcons playoff bid takes a big hit dropping to 8-18, 5-10.
Meredith Watkins delivered three aces in set five's first seven points to help stake Barton out to a 7-1 lead. After a kill from Kelly Lancellot and Milana Mervosh, the Bulldogs would commit two-straight attack errors to get the Lady Falcons within two at 7-5. Trailing 11-7, Pfeiffer would again claw back down just 13-12 after kills from Jessica Homrich and Amber Wooten before a final Barton kill and Lady Falcon error sealed the match victory for the Bulldogs.
Barton stormed out to a 25-15 win in set one before Pfeiffer rallied to even the match 25-19 clsoing out the set on a 6-1 run after racing out to an early 6-1 lead. After the Bulldogs stormed back with a 25-17 set three win, the Lady Falcons came back to force a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth. A pair of late kills by Lancellot and Wooten would ice the set four win.
Lancellot would lead the way for Pfeiffer with 19 kills hitting .389 in the loss. Kati Wood put down 19 kills for Barton while Melissa Cochran threw down 18.
