Last Second Goal Dooms Women's Soccer in 1-0 Tournament Championship Loss at Belmont Abbey; Three Named to All-Tournament Team

Box Score

BELMONT, N.C. - With one second remaining in the first half, Belmont Abbey's Silvia Vazquez sent her shot attempt into the back right corner of the net as the only goal in a 1-0 win over Pfeiffer University in the 2012 Conference Carolinas tournament championship match. The Crusaders improve to 11-9-1 overall and secure the league's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. The Lady Falcons see their season come to an end at 10-7-3.

After a back-and-forth first half with both teams getting equal scoring opportunities, Vazquez delivered her shot at 44:59 in the 45 minute half as the Crusader made the goal stand as Hannah Kohls made five saves in net.

Pfeiffer's Aaliyah Jackson and Hannah Hill would each have final shot attempts for the Lady Falcons in the closing minutes in a last ditch effort to force overtime.

The Lady Falcons outshot the Crusaders 9-6, 5-1 on goal with Vazquez's goal going as the only shot on frame.

Jackson, along with goalkeeper Britt Polly and Kayla Rodriguez, were named to the all-tournament team.
