Crouch and Oliver Lead Cross Country at Annual NCAA II Southeast Regional Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Pfeiffer University's men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2012 season Saturday morning at the NCAA Southeast Region meet at McAlpine Creek Park. Over 30 of the schools in the region competed in the meet with Columbus State winning team titles for both the men and women. The Lady Falcons would finish 20th while the men's team concluded 21st.
Alex Crouch completed her freshman year by being Pfeiffer's first finisher in each race she competed. Crouch finished the 6k course in 25:24. Trista Byers finished next in 25:42 followed by sophomore Justine Serje just 12 seconds behind. Freshmen Janna Featherstone and Cori Newton rounded out the scoring finishing in 26:11 and 26:38 respectively. As a team, the Lady Falcons averaged 25:58 for the course, with the top five scores finishing within 1:14 of each other.
The men would finished in 21st just nine points behind Brevard and Catawba from the South Atlantic Conference. Pfeiffer was led by Will Oliver who finished his four-year cross country career running a 34:16 on the 10k course. Following Oliver were five freshmen. Finishing in 35:30 was Alex Freeze while Henry Furman was just 18 seconds behind him. Brandon Garren and Nathan Jarman finished in 4th and 5th for Pfeiffer with times of 36:22 and 36:40. The 5th freshman on Pfeiffer's regional team was Jesse Skidmore who ran a 37:15 while rounding out the team was Cody Bivens with a 38:06. Pfeiffer averaged a 35:43 for the race, good for one of the best team averages in school history.
After the race Head Coach Scott Nolt commented about the season, "This season was marked by impressive showings from our strong freshmen class and solid leadership from our upperclassmen. We are a very young team and the two seniors we have are going to be missed, but we are very excited about the potential of our team."
