Falcon Swimming Re-Writes Record Books in Weekend's Fall Frenzy
November 20, 2012
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University swim teams broke a total of seven school records each finishing seventh overall in Wingate's annual Fall Frenzy held over the weekend at MCAC. Kate Galichenko and Matt Burns would take home victories in "B" finals while both also got in on the drowning of the school record books.
The three-day weekend meet started with Galichenko taking home her individual victory in the "B" final of the 200 individual medley. Later in the day, George Moreno finished 11th overall in the 50 freestyle breaking his own school record.
On Saturday, Galichenko began Saturday finishing 6th in the 400 IM setting a new school record before Daliya Spasova came within 0.9 seconds away from a new top mark concluding 10th in the 100 fly. Andrew Corley would finish 12th in the same event while Burns broke his own school-record twice in the prelims and finals of the 100 breaststroke. The Lady Falcons 800 free relay team of Galichenko, Hannah Finkernagel, Mary Rudolph and Spasova ended day two with a new school relay record.
The demolition of the record books continued on Sunday as Finkernagel broke the 1,000 free record on an official split time within the 1,650, then proceeded to break the 1,650 record by more than 24 seconds. Grant Smith would conclude 11th overall in the men's 1,650 before Burns won the "B" final in the 200 breast after Nick Insley wrapped up the 200 backstroke in 11th. Spasova and Corley wrapped up the weekend with 12th place finishes in the 200 fly.
With an excellent showing in the Fall Frenzy with some of the region and conference's best teams, Pfeiffer will now take some time off before a relay meet with St. Leo held in North Fort Myers, Florida during winter break.
