MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Monday night’s non-conference tilt between Lincoln University and Pfeiffer University would eventually be decided by free throws as the Lions shot 76% from the charity stripe claiming a 65-55 victory over the Falcons inside the Merner Gym. After a three by George Jackson (Baltimore, MD) later made it a 15-point advantage, a pair of threes by Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) and Tayron Gibson (Dumfries, VA) helped the Falcons slice the lead down to 10 at the break as the Lions led 32-22.

In the second half, Pfeiffer would get as close as nine on four different occasions but couldn’t convert free throws or key shots to get the contest into a two possession game. A triple by Matt Ellwood (Lees Summit, MO) would the first Falcon to get the deficit back into single digits with 14:01 to play.

A pair of Humphrey free throws did the same at the 5:01 mark while Carrington Kirkpatrick (Charlotte, NC) hit the back end of his two attempts to make it a 59-50 game with 85 seconds remaining. Kenny Sharpe (Chester, PA) and George Jackson (Baltimore, MD) would convert the Lions’ final six free throw attempts to hold on for the ten point win.

Sharpe would lead all scorers for Lincoln with 21 points on the night followed closely by teammate Jackson’s 20. Humphrey led the Falcons with another double-double scoring 13 with 14 boards while Gibson chipped in with 12. Pfeiffer would shoot 46% from the field in the loss while the Lions managed to shoot at a 40% clip. The Falcons would also hold the rebound margin at +8 leading the glass 36-28.
