Lemons Scores Career-High 28 Tying School Record for Three-Pointers; Women's Basketball Sets and Ties Two School Records in Big Win over Barber Scotia
December 5, 2012
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University sophomore Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) poured in a career-high 28 points while tying a school-record with eight three-pointers during a comfortable 87-59 victory over Barber Scotia in women’s basketball action on Wednesday night. The Lady Falcons, who set a new school-record for made threes and tied another record with 24 assists, improve to 6-1 overall while the Sabers fall to 0-8.
After an early basket by the Sabers’ Darrian Bush (Flint, MI) just 29 seconds in, the first of Lemons’ eight triples on the night gave Pfeiffer the lead for good just 1:21 later. Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) would help push the lead to a half-dozen minutes later with a three while Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) and Rhoney capped a 9-2 run to put the hosts up 19-10. Another three by Lemons late in the first half would give Pfeiffer their largest lead during the first 20 minutes at 13, up 29-16.
For the second-straight contest, the Lady Falcons would top the 50-point mark in the second half scoring 51 en route to the 28-point win. A Cox three after a pair of Goddess Steele free throws (Charlotte, NC) extended the lead to 11 before another 15-0 run that started, continued and ended with Lemons threes put Pfeiffer up 20 with 7:36 remaining. Final threes from Lemons pushed the advantage to 31 as the guard concluded with her eight threes tying a school-record set by Angie Little back in 1988.
In addition to Lemons’ individual record-tying performance, Pfeiffer as a team also tied a top mark with 24 assists in the win led by Rhoney’s nine. One team school-record did shatter on Wednesday night as the 16 team triples made surpassed the old mark of 14 set on four different occasions.
Lemons finished two boards shy of a double-double as did Rhoney with her 12 points and nine helpers. Cox scored 17 on the night concluding just one rebound shy of her own double-double. Lindsey Lee (Greensboro, NC) of Barber Scotia led the Sabers with 25 on the night.
Pfeiffer will be back in action one final time before the winter break traveling across town to Catawba for a Saturday matinee with the Lady Indians. Tip time is set for 2:00 p.m. with live stats and video being available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
