Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Erskine College senior Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY) knocked down back-to-back threes early in overtime to propel the Flying Fleet to an 82-76 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas menís basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Erskine improves to 7-2 overall, 3-2 in league play while the Falcons dip to 2-8, 1-3.

To just get to overtime, Erskine would have to erase a six-point deficit with 7:12 remaining after a Tayron Gibson (Dumfries, VA) layup coupled with a Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) jumper. Two minutes later, a Jake Haslem (Lithia, FL) three would get the Fleet to within two before a pair of Humphrey free throws extended the lead back to three with 4:49 to play.

Seconds later, DeShaun Hill (Inman, SC) would knock down the equalizer for the Fleet for a 62-62 contest before a floater in the lane by Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA) gave the visitors a 65-64 advantage with 2:23 left. Two free throws by Montez Singleton (Charlotte, NC) and layup by Gibson helped the Falcons stay alive and go up by three until another Haslam triple tied the game for the final time in regulation with 56 ticks left. Singleton would end up misfiring on the Falcons final attempt of regulation while Perkins missed his baseline jumper with one second left.

Neither team would score in the first minute of OT until Sorrellís first triple 62 seconds in. After a missed three by the Falcons, Sorrell would then connect again just 34 seconds later to put the Fleet up six. A free throw and eventual three by Perkins made it a 10-0 start to overtime by Erskine until a pair of Humphrey free throws got the Falcons back on the board as the Fleet would hold on over the final 41 seconds.

Perkins would lead the Fleet with a game-high 24 points followed by Haslamís 21. Sorrell finished with 11 behind Hallís 13 picking the best time to hit on his only triples of the afternoon. Erskine would also benefit from 16 Pfeiffer turnovers turning those into 24 offensive points despite the Falcons bench outscoring the Fleetís 31-4. Humphrey would again lead the Falcons scoring 23 to go along with his 10 rebounds while Gibson and Matt Ellwood (Lees Summit, MO) finished with 16 and 12.
