Men's Basketball Falls 87-72 at Queens as Royals Use Late Second Half Run Aides Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Host Queens closed out the second half doubling up Pfeiffer University 32-16 to claim an 87-72 victory in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action on Thursday night inside the Grady Cole Center. The Royals improve to 10-8 overall, 7-5 in league play while the Falcons suffer their sixth-straight loss falling to 3-15, 1-10.
A three-pointer by Josh Humphrey put the Falcons up 56-55 with 11:59 to play in the second half before the Royals started their run. Brandon Nichols started with a jumper 12 seconds later before David Mason drained a couple of free throws.
Queens would push the advantage into double-digits with a pair of Tre McLean free throws before another Humphrey three sliced the lead back down to eight with 4:58 to play. A final 10-0 run by the Royals would extend the lead to 18 over the final three minutes en route to the 15-point win.
Nichols led all scorers with 26 off the bench for Queens while Antonio Stabler followed with 23. Humphrey led the Falcons with 20 points hitting four shots from behind the arc while Tayron Gibson and AJ Clark each followed with 16 and 14. Queens shot 57% from the field in the win while the Falcons managed 42%.
Pfeiffer will look to snap its skid on Saturday traveling to Lees-McRae for a matchup with the Bobcats. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. with live stats/video available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
