Lady Falcon Softball Swept in First Road Trip at Carson-Newman; Boever Homers in Game Two
February 9, 2013
JEFFERSON CITY, T.N. - Pfeiffer University softball suffered their first sweep of 2013 as host Carson-Newman needed just five innings in each game to take 9-0 and 9-1 victories on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the year while the Lady Falcons fall to 3-3.
In the opener, Carson-Newman would use a three-run homer to cap off a four-run first frame while a two-run single, run-scoring single and Lady Falcon error quickly added four more for the hosts in the second. A RBI-triple accounted for the Eagles final run in the fourth. Jessica Jackson and Emily Workman would account for the only two Pfeiffer hits in game one. Shelby Brown took the loss inside the circle.
Game two saw the Lady Falcons come out and grab a 1-0 lead on Jaclyn Boever's first collegiate home run with a solo blast to center in the top of the second. Another Pfeiffer error would start a Carson-Newman rally in the third as two quick runs led to a 2-1 Eagles lead. Things turned ugly in a six-run fourth as a bases-loaded walk, two-run single and three-run homer in three-straight at-bats blew open game two. Carson-Newman would add the game-ending run an inning later in the fifth. In addition to Boever's round-tripper, Celia Dew added the only other hit as the Lady Falcons came up with just two hits again in game two. Sam Jarmusch suffered her first loss of the season inside the pitching circle.
The Lady Falcons will quickly get back to action on Sunday at home taking on Wingate. Pfeiffer will try to erase Saturday's memories with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
