Jackson's Game Two Winner Leads Softball to Tuesday Split with Catawba

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Visiting Catawba College and host Pfeiffer University split a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Indians blanked the Lady Falcons 3-0 in the opener while Pfeiffer scored a 3-2 victory in the nightcap using eight innings. Pfeiffer now stands at 4-6 on the year while Catawba moves to 4-3.
Catawba's first run in the fifth came on a two-out Gina Gerone RBI-single to left. Insurance in the seventh came in the form of a Tara Gibbs and Sydney Hyder RBI-singles in the final frame. Pfeiffer managed just one hit in game one with that belonging to Sadie Saine. Saine singled to left leading off the third.
Carley Tysinger scored the game one win going the distance with her one-hitter while fanning nine. Amanda Terry would collect two hits for Catawba in the opener.
Pfeiffer would strike first in game two as a Hannah Jackson RBI fielder's choice in the third and Rebecca Foil sacrifice fly in the fourth staked the Lady Falcons out to a 2-0 lead. A two-run single by Gibbs in the top of the sixth would eventually force the extra eighth inning. After Pfeiffer got out of the top of the eighth, Jackson would waste little time in getting the Lady Falcons to celebrate. With Khristin Isley placed at second due to the international tiebreaker rule, Jackson would promptly follow pushes a bunt single into the gap at shortstop that scored Isley with the game-winner.
Sam Jarmusch picked up the win allowing two runs on six hits in her eight innings of work striking out five. Celia Dew, along with Isley, each collected a pair of hits in game two while Jackson had two of the three RBI.
