MISENHEIMER, N.C. The Falcons improve to 5-0 at home advancing to 8-3 overall, 7-1 in league play while the Fleet fall to 5-6, 3-4.
A kill by Mike Michelau (Bristol, WI) and Mike Kawa (Debica, POLAND) would give Erskine a 16-13 lead late in set one. The Pfeiffer comeback started on a Micah Bortner (Dallastown, PA) kill followed by three Fleet miscues to square the contest at 17-17. Fabio Diniz (Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) would put the Falcons up 21-19 with one of his nine kills on the night before Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) wrapped up set one with back-to-back kills for a 1-0 match lead.
Set two was just as tight as a Joe Supko (Irwin, PA) kill for Pfeiffer followed by one for Erskine from Omar Melendez (San Juan, PUERTO RICO) saw another tied score at 17-17. Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) would give the Falcons a lead for good on the very next point while Edelman again contributed late with three of the Falcons final kills to take a 2-0 match advantage.
The third set saw Pfeiffer grab an 18-15 lead after an Edelman service ace, forcing an Erskine timeout and putting the Falcons within seven points of a sweep. A Kawa ace sandwiched in-between to Pfeiffer errors brought the Fleet back into the set before an Andrew Davis (Asheville, NC) ace and attack error by the Falcons kept Erskine alive with a 26-24 set three win.
Pfeiffer stormed out of the set four gates as Kyle Landrigan (Delmar, NY) and Edelman put down kills for a 16-9 Pfeiffer advantage. Landrigan, David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) and Supko would kill back-to-back-to-back attempts for a 19-12 lead before a final service error, one of 35 combined between the two teams, ended the match in a 25-20 win for the Falcons.
Edelman led the way for the hosts with 13 kills hitting .400 in the win. Brophy would follow with 10 kills and 11 digs while Specian assisted 44 times. Michelau would lead all hitters with 17 kills on the night for Erskine.
