#14 Limestone Uses Big Second Half to Slide Past Women's Basketball; Cox Moves into Fourth on All-Time Scoring List

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Limestone College, ranked #14 in NCAA II, limited host Pfeiffer University to 22 second half points to help claim a 72-53 victory in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The win sends the Saints to 20-2 overall, 17-1 in league play while dropping the Lady Falcons to 19-4, 14-4 snapping an eight-game win streak.
Pfeiffer got out to an early six point lead after a pair of Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) free throws at the 15:35 mark of the first half while Limestone would use a three-pointer five minutes later from Maria Young (Asheville, NC) to take their first lead of the game at 15-14.
A response from Carter Williams (Harrisonburg, VA) and Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) in the form of a jumpers put Pfeiffer back up three until Limestone took the lead for good on a three-ball from Stephanie Hayes (Hopkins, SC) with 7:22 to play in the half. Harvey would help slice the lead down to two on a jumper with just under four minutes to go but Hayes and Young would each help the Saints carry a three-point, 34-31 lead into the half.
The Saints came storming out of the second half gate getting into a double-digit lead after another three from Young six minutes into the period. A triple from Cox got the Lady Falcons within seven with 9:03 to go midway through, but Limestone would close out the contest 19-7 run to claim the victory.
Young would lead all scorers on the day with 24 points while Cox led the Lady Falcons at 23. With her 23, Cox moves into fourth on the all-time scoring list for Pfeiffer. Limestone would shoot 44% in the win while limiting the Lady Falcons to just 27%.
