Cox Scores 41 to Set New School-Record; Lady Falcons Re-Write Record Book in 111-48 Thumping of Converse

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) broke a 35-year-old school-record for points in a single game dropping 41 as the Lady Falcons cruised to a 111-48 victory over Converse College in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Pfeiffer, who scored 63 first half points to break another school-record, improves to 20-5 overall, 15-5 in league play while the Valkyries remain winless at 0-24, 0-20.
The win gives the Pfeiffer women’s basketball program its fourth 20-win season in school-history while clinching no worse than a #3 seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament. The Lady Falcons would tie school-record marks hitting 16 three-pointers and dishing out 26 assists.
Cox scored 28 first half points before getting her record-breaking basket on a layup with 34.5 seconds remaining in the contest. Cox tied the 39-point record set by Kem Dudney back on December 1, 1977 with a driving layup with 3:37 to go. Cox would shoot 16-of-25 from the field at a massive 64% clip while hitting eight threes, also tying a school-record, while pulling down seven rebounds.
Getting in on Saturday’s action scoring a career-high 18 points was Bridget Rothert (Germantown, MD) would shot 6-of-12 in the win knocking down three triples and all three free throw attempts. Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) would also score 18 on the day adding 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Harvey moves herself up to 11th on the all-time scoring list after her 18 on Saturday. Kaela Bellefeuil (Kernersville, NC) chipped in with 14 points off the bench while Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) dished out 10 more assists as Pfeiffer shot 55% as team.
Pfeiffer gets back to league action on Tuesday traveling to Mount Olive before hosting Queens on Senior Night Friday in the final regular season game of the 2012-2013 season. Both games will tip at 5:30 p.m. with live stats/video available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
