Wade Has Big Day at the Plate as Baseball Splits Saturday DH at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, G.A. - Pfeiffer University and host North Georgia split a Saturday baseball doubleheader after game one was postponed on Friday night. The Falcons nearly rallied in the opener falling 5-4 to the Saints before grabbing a 6-2 victory with a four-run eighth in game two. Pfeiffer stands at 2-11 overall after Saturday's play while North Georgia moves to 2-9.

Pfeiffer got on the board in the first inning of game one as a Kyle Hackney single scored Jon Gray after he reached with a one out single and moved into scoring position by swiping second. After squaring the game in the fourth, North Georgia put together a four-run, five-hit fifth frame to take a 5-1 lead.

The Falcons started to chip away in the sixth as Matt Wade brought home Gray again with a base hit to left while a Kevin Price double in the seventh plated Jacob Yates for a 5-3 deficit. In the ninth, Izzy Perez started with a double down the left-field line and later came around on a Yates single to right.

Gray finished the opener 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Wade collected two hits in four plate appearances. North Georgia would out-hit Pfeiffer 12-10 in the opener.

In game two, Pfeiffer broke open a 2-2 contest with a four-run eighth rolling to their 6-2 win. Gray continued his torrid evening with a 3-2 double to center scoring two hitters later on Wade's two-run blast. On the very next pitch, Hackney would homer as the Falcons went back-to-back for a 5-2 lead. Pfeiffer's final run would come on an Aarin Sharpe single back up the middle scoring Dalton Lindley.

Earlier, Perez and Wade traded leadoff doubles in the second for the first Falcon run of game two while Lindley brought home Cole McGraw on a RBI-single in the fourth.

Wade would wrap up a fantastic Saturday 3-for-4 in game two with three more RBI while Hackney also collected three hits. Jeff Barkley picked up the win in relief for the Falcons tossing three innings allowing just a single hit with three strikeouts. Tyler Ring received a no-decision after six innings of work with two runs on seven hits while also fanning three.

Both teams will meet in the rubber game of the three-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
