Early Lead Fades Late as Baseball Drops Rubber Game at North Georgia 5-4 in 10
February 24, 2013
DAHLONEGA, G.A. - Host North Georgia scored a two-out run in the bottom of the ninth and the walk-off run in the bottom of the tenth to steal a 5-4 extra-inning victory over Pfeiffer University in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon. The Saints improve to 3-9 with the victory in the rubber-game of the series while the loss sends the Falcons to 2-12.
Pfeiffer got on the board with a pair of runs in the first frame as Aarin Sharpe delivered a two-run homer to left. After North Georgia tied things up with their own two-run blast in the bottom of the inning, Pfeiffer would take a 4-2 lead on a Saints throwing error in the fourth and a Cole McGraw sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Slicing the lead down to 4-3 with a run in the sixth, North Georgia faced their final strike before getting their two-out single up the middle to tie the contest at four apiece. In the tenth, a base hit and outfield error would lead to the Saints final and game-winning run.
Jon Gray led the Falcons offensively with a 3-for-4 day at the plate scoring a pair of runs. Sharpe and McGraw would account for the other Pfeiffer hits racking up two apiece.
Weather permitting, Pfeiffer will get back to action on Tuesday hosting Tusculum at Joe Ferebee Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
