March 12, 2013
HICKORY, N.C. - A fast start for Pfeiffer University faded late as host Lenoir-Rhyne scored seven unanswered runs to claim a 7-2 victory in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night. The Bears snap the Falcons four-game win streak improving to 9-16 overall while sending the Falcons to 9-15.
Pfeiffer got on the board in the second as Matt Wade and Johnny Brown, Jr. picked up back-to-back singles as Wade scooted to third on Brown, Jr's base hit. Taking the extra base would immediately pay off as Kyle Hackney lifted a sacrifice fly to right bringing in Wade. In the third, Jon Gray kept the inning alive with a two-out double, stole third and had it pay off with a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Falcons.
Lenoir-Rhyne would also use a two-out double to get themselves on the board in the fourth before a two-run homer in the sixth gave the Bears a 3-2 lead. The Bears would end up using two more RBI-doubles, run-scoring single and passed ball to complete their seven unanswered runs.
Wade would lead the Falcons at the plate with three of the nine hits while Gray collected a pair. Pfeiffer will get back inside Conference Carolinas play traveling to Coker for a three-game set beginning Friday afternoon.
