HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Pfeiffer University and host Coker College split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday afternoon as the Cobras took a 4-1 decision in game one while the Falcons bounced back for a 7-5 victory in game two. Pfeiffer improves to 10-17 overall, 6-4 in league play while the Cobras move to 16-8, 8-4.
Pfeiffer's lone run in the seven-inning opener came in the top of the first as Cole McGraw doubled home Jacob Yates with the game's first run. Coker would immediately take advantage of two Falcon errors in the bottom of the first to score three gaining a two-run lead. Coker would add one final run for insurance in the third.
Game two saw Pfeiffer dig themselves a 4-0 deficit until scoring all seven runs over the final three innings to salvage the final game of the series. In a three-run, three-hit seventh, Matt Wade would bring home McGraw on a sacrifice fly to center while Kyle Hackney blasted a two-run homer to left after Izzy Perez kept the inning alive with a double to left.
In the eighth, Jon Gray would continue his tear with a solo shot to left squaring the contest at four before tacking on the final three runs in the ninth. Perez delivered again with a RBI-double to score Wade while Hackney brought in Perez with a single to right. Hackney would later score on a wild pitch to make it 7-4 in favor of Pfeiffer.
Hackney would finish game two with a 3-for-4 outing adding three RBI and pair of runs scored. Perez, Gray and Yates would each collect two in the come-from-behind win.
Pfeiffer gets back to action on Tuesday night taking on Lenoir-Rhyne in a neutral site contest at CMC-Northeast Stadium in Kannapolis, home of the Kannapolis Intimidators. First pitch will be thrown at 7:00 p.m.
