Lady Falcon Softball Sweeps Lees-McRae with Comeback Win in Game One and Shutout in Game Two at Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Trailing 4-2 heading into the seventh of game one, Pfeiffer University turned on the offense to eventual take a 7-6, extra-inning win in the opener before rolling 8-0 in game two to sweep host Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas softball action on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Falcons improve to 16-22 overall, 6-8 in league play while sending the Bobcats to 7-34, 2-12.

Ashlee Ellen provided the two earlier runs on one swing of the bat in the third blasting a two-run shot to left after Sadie Saine drew a one-out walk. Down by two going to the seventh, Ellen would start the inning with a base hit to left while Julianna Bullington and Celia Dew also followed with singles to load the bases. Lindsey Russell then drew a walk to bring in Ellen while Tyresha Ellis tied it with a single down the left field line on the very next pitch. Pfeiffer would take a brief lead on Shelby Brown's base hit to left. After Lees-McRae tied it with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh, Sam Jarmusch would provide the game-winner with a single to right with two outs in the as Jessica Jackson and Saine scored a pair of unearned runs on an error. Jarmusch would pick up the first of her two wins tossing the final two frames of game one allowing an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout.

Russell would have her self a 4-for-4 game two driving in four while Pfeiffer also took advantage of six Lees-McRae errors for an 8-0 win to complete to the sweep. An unearned run started in the first for Pfeiffer while Russell and Ellis picked up RBI in the fourth on a pair of base hits. Russell would help the Lady Falcons blow open game two in a four-run fifth providing a two-run single to left after Bullington drove in Saine earlier in the frame. Russell would score the final run on another Bobcat error in the fifth. To end the offensive afternoon, Dew and Russell would trade leadoff doubles in the seventh to provide the final eight-run difference. Jarmusch would go the distance in game two tossing all seven frames posting a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. Pfeiffer would pound out 27 hits in the doubleheader picking up 14 in game two.

Pfeiffer gets right back to action on Monday night traveling to Johnson C. Smith for a makeup game with the Golden Bulls starting at 5:00 p.m.
