Limestone Wins Battle of Nation's Top-10 Teams Scoring 12-10 Win over Men's Lacrosse

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A late burst to end the first half and start the second would send third-ranked Limestone to a 12-10 victory over tenth-ranked Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 14-1 overall, 7-0 in league play capturing the regular season title while also dropping the Falcons to 12-2, 4-2.

Limestone put home the game’s first goal 38 seconds into the contest as Zach Cummings (Crownsville, MD) put the Saints up one. Pfeiffer would then reel off the next four-in-a-row to grab a three-goal lead. Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL) started the scoring for the Falcons while Mike Triolo (Toronto, ONTARIO) gave the hosts a 2-1 at the 9:25 mark of the first. After Matt Michaeli (Draper, UT) and James Shepherd (St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK) made it a 4-1 game, Riley Loewen (Burnaby, BRITISH COLUMBIA) halted the run with 5:32 left in the period.

Tilmon would again nearly two minutes later to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead before the Saints closed out the quarter with Reid Reinholdt (Port Moody, BRITISH COLUMBIA) and Todd Nakasuji (Ajax, ONTARIO) strikes for a 5-4 Pfeiffer lead after the first 15 minutes.

In the second, Reinholdt would strike again to even the contest with 9:51 to play before Tilmon again put the Falcons on top with his third of the day with 6:47 remaining. Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, BRITISH COLUMBIA) and Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY) traded goals for both sides for a 7-6 lead for the Falcons until Corey Rich (Sacramento, CA) and Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, NY) gave the Saints an 8-7 halftime lead.

Tor Reinholdt start the second half scoring with an unassisted goal to put the Saints up two until Gilbert responded to send it back to a one-goal game. Loewen would then push momentum all over to Limestone with back-to-back goals three-and-a-half minutes apart to put Limestone up three. James Shepherd (St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK) and Kory Lutes (Orlando, FL) would try to make things interesting towards the end, but a final Rich goal before Lutes’ strike sealed the deal for the Saints.

Pfeiffer gets back to action next weekend as the #2 seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament. Semifinal action will begin on Friday with the two winners meeting in Sunday’s championship tilt.
