Fainter announced as Falcons Head Coach

Pfeiffer University’s Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director Bob Reasso has officially announced Justin Fainter as the new head men’s and women’s tennis coach. Fainter most previously served as the head women’s coach at Roanoake College since 2011.

Fainter oversaw all aspects of the women’s tennis program including practice planning, scheduling, recruiting and retention at Roanoke. Fainter coached 13 players to the All-ODAC team during his tenure and his 2013 squad set a school record for most wins in a season with 14. Fainter guided the team to a regional ranking and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament, also firsts in school history. His efforts earned him the 2013 ODAC women’s tennis Coach of the Year award.

While with the Maroons, Fainter was also a Physical Education and History Teacher at Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy in Wertz, Va. He started in July 2011 but quickly moved up the ranks. A year into his term, Fainter was named the school’s Athletic Director where he organized and ran week-long summer athletic camps, developed team schedules and also coached the boys and girls basketball teams.  

Fainter served as the Head Tennis Coach at Harrisonburg City Schools from 2008-11 and won three district championships, one regional runner-up and two regional championships. Fainter was named the VHSL Region III Coach of the Year in 2009.

Fainter also has extensive experience working as a Tennis Camp Counselor at camps such as Penn State University, Washington and Lee University, College of William and Mary and Bowdoin College. He also was the head tennis pro at Timber Ridge Summer Camps from 2010-11.

“We are delighted to add Justin to our coaching staff,” said Reasso. “Justin is a proven college coach who will make a seamless transition to Pfeiffer. The Knapp Tennis Center is a great facility and we believe Justin will bring us the student athletes and the success that will grace that wonderful facility.”

Fainter graduated from James Madison University in 2010 and holds a degree in History with minors in Secondary Education and Interdisciplinary Studies. He went on the gain a master’s in the Art of Teaching in 2011 from James Madison. 

Fainter and his fiancée Kelly currently reside in Concord, NC.
