Women's cross country team welcomes four runners to team

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s cross country team welcomes four new member to the team for the 2013-14 season. The incomers join six returners from last year, including all five of the team’s top runners, for Falcons Head Coach Scott Nolt.

Mary Stegall joins Pfeiffer from Croatoan High School. At Croatoan, she was an All-Conference cross country runner for four years and All-Region for three years, while helping lead her school to the state meet four consecutive seasons. Mary plans to major in physical education at Pfeiffer.

Allison Beeson was a three-sport athlete at Southern Lee High School playing softball, volleyball and running cross country. With only one year on the cross country team, Beeson was the Most Improved runner and also was named the softball team’s Most Outstanding Player. A four-year All-Conference athlete in high school, Beeson will major in psychology at Pfeiffer.

Kristen Hatley comes to Pfeiffer from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and East Rowan High School. Kristen was All-Conference and captain of the cross country team in high school. A Scholar Athlete and National Honor Society member in high school, Kristen was also on the Dean’s list at Charlotte. Kristen is pursuing a nursing degree at Pfeiffer.

Also joining the team this year is Christie Baran. Baran is a premed/biology major at Pfeiffer who played lacrosse last year for the Falcons.

“I am excited about welcoming our new runners and what they bring to our program and university,” said Coach Nolt. “They will compliment a strong team that returns almost every runner from last season.”

The women’s team kicks off the season on Sept. 6 when they compete in the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington at 4:30 p.m.
