Dow named as Head Women's Basketball Coach
July 31, 2013
MISENHEIMER, NC – Pfeiffer University Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director Bob Reasso has announced the hiring of Roy Dow as the new women’s basketball head coach. Dow comes to Pfeiffer from California Lutheran University where he served as the head coach for five years and inherits a Falcons’ program that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament a year ago and posted the second highest win total in program history.
Dow is no stranger to success on the sidelines. In his most recent position, Dow led the Regals to four consecutive winning seasons, back-to-back conference tournament championships and NCAA appearances, and a conference regular season title. Last season, Dow’s squad went 23-5, tying a school record for most wins in a season. In his five years, Dow accumulated an 81-51 record and a .614 winning percentage. He also had 12 players named to the All-Conference team and two players named to the All-West Region.
Prior to his time at California Lutheran, Dow was the head coach of the men’s basketball team at California Institute of Technology for seven years. While there, he worked to improve the recruiting efforts and gained the program national media coverage. His efforts were rewarded with the critically acclaimed documentary Quantum Hoops which is a 2007 documentary that followed the team and won a Top 10 Audience Choice Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
“I would like to thank the search committee for the terrific opportunity,” said Dow. “I am very excited and am ready to get started. I look forward to building upon the great success of a year ago.”
Reasso is equally as excited to add a coach of Dow’s profile. “We are incredibly lucky to add a coach of Roy’s caliber to our athletic department,” said Reasso. “He has great experience on all levels of the game. We have brought in an extremely knowledgeable basketball coach who will build on and continue the success of our women’s basketball program.”
